Section 80E allows a deduction for interest paid on repayment of education loans taken for higher education. The deduction u/s 80E is not available for principal repayment of the education loan.
There is no monetary limit under this section. An individual can claim the total interest amount paid as a deduction. However, a deduction is available only for 8 consecutive years.
Adding deductions under Section 80E,
Educating your children is a priority and sometimes it can be really costly, but worry not you can claim deductions on interest you pay on education loans using the steps below,
- Navigate to Save > Begin/Edit > Deductions > Add/Proceed.
- Select Section 80E and click on Proceed.
- Add the Interest paid on the Education Loan.
- Once you have added the amounts correctly, click on Save.
Want to see the deductions that you just added? Go to the summary view under, Tax Situation > Deductions.
